Five sisters who live with their merchant father in Transylvania use a hidden portal in their home to cross over into a magical world, the Wildwood.

I really liked this book. I don’t know much about Romanian folklore, and Wildwood Dancing introduced me to a rich trove of mythology that I was excited to learn. Though this book is set in Transylvania, it is not about vampires or anything to do with popular vampire mythology.

The main character, Jena, is a strong character that is put into tough situations by circumstance, by her cousin, and by her other four sisters. At times she made good decisions and sometimes she let her emotions rule her better judgement. That, to me, is infuriating – however, I stuck with the book and I am glad that I did. I will definitely be reading the next one!
