In the heart of Ohio, Jessie Shimmer is caught up in hot, magic-drenched passion with her roguish lover, Cooper Marron, who is teaching her how to tap her supernatural powers. When they try to break a drought by calling down a rainstorm, a hellish portal opens and Cooper is ripped from this world, leaving Jessie fighting for her life against a vicious demon that's been unleashed.

Spellbent is a fun, fast-paced, plot-driven book. It focuses on Jessie Shimmer, who is a sorceress in modern times. Her boyfriends Cooper gets into some trouble and she goes against the local magic authorities to try to save him. Spellbent is fast and fun, but still manages to do a decent job in developing Jessie’s character along the way. Many “friend” characters pop up to help, and most of them are pretty one-dimensional. However, the story is fast-paced enough that it didn’t bother me. I will definitely read the next ones.
