Mercy is a shapeshifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. And she's never known any others of her kind. Until now. As Mercy comes to terms with this new information, an evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River. Something deadly is coming, facts are thin on the ground and Mercy feels ill at ease. However, her father's people may know more. To have any hope of surviving, Mercy and her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will need all the resources the shifters can offer. The climax of the series was fine. The romance was on point, although Dahlia’s decisions still irk me. I find myself thinking that if I were in her position I would take a completely different (and way smarter) approach to the conflict that surrounds her. The series continues to hold my interest, but it isn’t amazing literature by any means. I enjoyed the scenes on the pirate ship, and Dahlia’s adventures away from the Farm. Her decisions irritate me, as does some of the melodrama, but there is still enough there to keep me coming back for more.

My name is Dahlia but I’m called a Plaguer, a person who survived the Bloody Death. When the virus first hit the world, it ravaged the human race. I thought I was lucky to survive it but survival comes at a cost. Ever since the sickness, I see things and I’m hunted for these visions.

The setting was unique – a version of post-apocalyptic America that has been devastated by The Blood Plague, and the paranormal aspects were fun and also unique. Continue reading “The Wilds by Donna Augustine”

In order to forget their grief over the death of their lovers, Fafhrd the Barbarian and the Gray Mouser set off in search of adventure.

The prose in Swords and Deviltry was shocking – like, it actually jolted me. Wonderfully deep and descriptive with darkness and anachronism, and I savored every word of it. Continue reading “Swords and Deviltry by Fritz Leiber”

Meh. Perhaps I was just not in the right mood for this book, but I only got to 20% before giving up. The characters seemed too stereotypical to me, and it seemed like I had read the plot about twenty times before. Apologies to those who liked this book, but I just couldn’t do it.
