Discount Armageddon is a fun Urban Fantasy novel that follows Verity Price in New York City. She is a cryptozoologist and a dancer, and she is a primary interface with the Cryptids that live in the city.
A Cryptid is essentially a non-traditional animal or being that are thought of as mythological creatures. She interacts with Bogeymen, Tanukis, telepaths, shape-changers, and all sorts of other creatures and humanoids. She is trying to protect them from The Covenant, which is an organization determined to kill all unnatural creatures. Verity wants to preserve these creatures as long as they don’t represent a threat to humanity.
I thought the book was fun and fast-paced, and I enjoyed Verity’s rich family history and the inventive set of supernatural people and creatures in the book. There is a romantic element as well, and it was tastefully done. I will continue reading the series.
